For Arthur and William basketball was a lot more than just a sport. It was an escape from their household issues. It was a way of life for these two boys. Without basketball Arthur very easily could have fell in with the wrong people in life. The same also goes for William as well.  The theme that interested me the most had to be the sense of hope. These young men had a fantastic opportunity to do something amazing. I do believe that if basketball didnt turn into money hungry situation for them that they could have gone further with the game.

Arthur Agee had it rough and theres no doubt about that. His father was in and out of his life consistently. He was on and off of drugs for the duration of the film. Arthurs mother rarely had a job and could barley afford living expenses. When Arthur had the opportunity to attend St. Josephs high school everything was looking great. This was until his parents could not afford to send him to school, This really set Arthur back grades wise when he then attended Marshall high. Arthur would lead his team to a city champion ship and made it to the semi finals for the state playoffs. This all occurred his senior year. Arthur had many scholarships offers from all over but could not except a division one scholarship with his marks. He ended up haveing to pass summer school  just to attend a junior college on a fully paid scholar ship.

William Gates had his equal share of variables to overcome. He had to deal with reoccurring injures, low test grades, and real life issues. William was able to attend St. Josephs High School for all four years. He did not struggle with grades as much as Agee did but he did have struggles to get his SAT scores to an 18 to accept a D  one scholarship. Williams sophomore year he had torn cartilage in his left knee. He was out for 9 weeks and then some with the physical therapy he had to endure.   After his struggle through the first few years of high school things started to look better for William. His senior year he lead his team to the state playoffs wear they would be eliminated in the second round. This was the earliest exit from the playoffs for  St. Josephs  in quite some time.
